David Letterman turned top 10 lists into an art- using his “Late Show Top 10” as one of the most creative features of his long running program. The original top 10 list was, of course, the commandments given by God to Moses outlining how we ought to live our lives. In scripture, ten is meant to reflect perfection. You’ll often read about 10 generations between important persons in the Bible, you’ll read about the 10 commandments, and the number 10 is also found in the apocalypse. This tendency to appreciate 10 is probably why we make top 10 lists (and not top 9 or 12 or 27 lists.)
